Surf Clear Epoxy Resin – Bio Based (Slow)

Bio-based, clear, UV stable epoxy for thin castings, surface coatings and laminating. The resin has a light purple appearance. This system is easily pigmented with our range of epoxy pigments for translucent, opaque and luminous effects. Surf Clear has been designed as a coating resin or thin casting resin. It cures to a high gloss, level surface. It is not suitable for thick casting as it will exotherm. UV Stability – This product will resist yellowing and is water resistant, however, it does not provide 100% UV protection and is not suitable for permanent, outdoor exposure. UV protection can be improved by overcoating with protective urethane paint such as TopClear or UV resistant wax polish. Curing Time – Depends on the ambient temperature but around 2hrs to gel. Allow at least 24hrs before demoulding or attempting to do any finishing work on the resin. The epoxy will take about 30 days to reach full hardness although this can be accelerated with a post cure of 16 h @ 60 °. Kit – Each kit contains a bottle of resin and a bottle of hardener which are mixed together at 100:41 parts by weight or 2-parts resin to 1-part hardener by volume.
Coverage: 909 millilitres per 1 kg with 1 liter covering 1 square meter to 1mm of thickness

NOTE: that when used with non-white backgrounds, the OH additive can modify the colour perception (creating a blue effect with carbon or pink effect with wood or linen fabrics).

Description

A solvent free, slightly thixotropic, toughened epoxy system for composite hand laminations, bonding various substrates, casting/ encapsulating/ coating; with exceptionally high chemical resistance, low vapour transmission properties, good elongation and toughness. Can be filled with fillers to change the viscosity and or properties.

Uses

A laminating system for composites
Manufacturing composite fuel tanks (see resistance table below)
A vapour barrier coating for insulation
A liquid bonding epoxy adhesive
Casting/ encapsulating of electronic components/ boxes
Lining of water/ fuel/ oil/ acid tanks (typically with glass fabrics)
Laminating of polystyrene blocks and or wood with fibreglass

Mixing (resin: hardener)

The system should be mixed at the following ratios:

Volume 100:50
Weight 100:44

The resin and hardener components must be measured out accurately. Measurement by weight using an electronic scale is recommended. Mix the two components thoroughly, paying attention to the sides and bottom of the container. Do not mix more than can be used within the working time of the system

Pro Silicone 35

Pro Silicone 35 is a 2-part, platinum-catalysed, addition curing silicone rubber. Pro Silicone 35 features low viscosity and vacuum degassing is not required for most applications. Pro Silicone 35 has excellent tear resistance and exhibits low linear shrinkage (<0.1%). Pro Silicone 35 will reproduce fine details and is food safe. It is suitable for industrial and artistic applications. Pro Silicone 35 silicone can be used to cast a variety of materials including chocolate, wax, gypsum- based polymers, low melt alloys, urethane, epoxy and polyester resins. The silicone will cure in closed environments and is therefore suitable for potting, encapsulating and large castings. In some cases, a release agent, such as Mikon F57 aerosol wax or Silicone 100 release, should be used to prolong mould life. Pro Silicone 35 can be accelerated with heat to reduce the pot life and cure time. The silicone can be thickened with silicone thixotropic liquid, RTV Thixo, for brush-on applications. Certain substances and substrates may inhibit the cure of Pro Silicone 35. Care must be taken to avoid contamination from tin curing silicones, chlorinated rubber compounds, PVC plasticizers, epoxy amines, sulphur containing materials and butyl elastomers.

Mixing

The Part A and Part B must be measured out accurately using a gram scale. Mix the two components thoroughly, paying attention to the sides and bottom of the container. Do not mix more than can be used within the working time of the system.

Pure Silicone 30

Pure Silicone 30 is a 2-part, tin-catalysed, condensation curing silicone rubber. Pure Silicone 30 has excellent tear resistance and exhibits low linear shrinkage. Pure Silicone 30 will reproduce fine details and is suitable for industrial and artistic applications. Pure Silicone 30 silicone can be used to cast a variety of materials including wax, gypsum-based polymers, low melt alloys, urethane, epoxy and polyester resins. In some cases, a release agent, such as Mikon F57 aerosol wax, should be used to prolong mould life. Pure Silicone 30 can be accelerated with a small percentage of Pure Silicon Accelerator to reduce the pot life and cure time. The silicone can be thickened with RTV Thixo silicone thixotropic liquid for brush-on applications.

The epoxy resin can be filled with Pearlescant pigment up to a maximum of 300% of the cast resin mass.
This luminous powder has the consistency of sand and can settle out of the epoxy. It should therefore be cast in thin layers close to the surface of the part, where it will be exposed to light.
We recommended that tests are carried out, to determine the correct colour and performance required.

Sicomin SR GreenPoxy 33 / SD 477x

Bio-based general-purpose laminating and casting epoxy. The slow casting 4771 and 770 hardeners are clear while the fast 4775 and 4777 hardeners are yellow-brown. Typically used for sealing wood with the fast hardener and medium to thick castings with the slow hardeners. UV Stability – This epoxy is not UV stable and must be pigmented to conceal UV yellowing. Curing time – The various hardeners can be blended to change gel times. SD4771 hardener is touch dry in 11 hours (30°C) and SD4770 in 15 hours (30°C). Kit – Each kit contains a bottle of resin and a bottle of hardener which are mixed together at 100:27 part by weight or various ratios by volume as per the data sheet.
Coverage: 909 millilitres per 1 kg with 1 liter covering 1 square meter to 1mm of thickness

Greencast 160 Epoxy Resin + SD7160 Slow Hardener – UV Stable Clear

Bio-based, clear, UV stable epoxy for thick castings using the SD7160 mega slow hardener. The resin has a light blue appearance. This system is easily pigmented with our range of epoxy pigments for translucent, opaque and luminous effects. This product has been designed as a casting resin, not a coating resin. The open surface typically needs to be flatted and polished to achieve a perfectly flat, glossy finish. The open surface can also be coated with Surf Clear to produce a high gloss, flat finish. UV Stability – This product will resist yellowing and is water resistant, however, it does not provide 100% UV protection and is not suitable for permanent, outdoor exposure. UV protection can be improved by overcoating with protective urethane paint such as TopClear or UV resistant wax polish. Curing Time – Depends on the ambient temperature but around 48hrs to touch-dry, but longer in thin castings. Allow at least 72hrs before demoulding or attempting to do any finishing work on the resin. The epoxy will take about 30 days to reach full hardness although this can be accelerated with a post cure of 24hr @ 40 to 60°C. Kit – Each kit contains a bottle of resin and a bottle of hardener which are mixed together at 100:42 parts by weight or 2- parts resin to 1-part hardener by volume.
Coverage: 885 millilitres per 1 kg with 1 liter covering 1 square meter to 1mm of thickness

High clarity polymer, colourless and with good brightness.
Room temperature curing

Epoxy Pigment Paste 50g

These are epoxy based pigments for the use of colouring epoxy resins and adhesives.
The pigments can be mixed into the epoxy resin before blending with the hardener / activator, or it can be blended in after the hardener / activator has been added.
The epoxy pigment does contain small amounts of epoxy resin in the paste, however this will not interfere wit the mix ratio.
